1. About these terms
These terms are the agreement between you and us for your use of The Mission Bible — our website (themissionbible.com), web app and installable app (together, the "Service"). By using the Service, you agree to these terms. If you don't agree, please don't use the Service.
We may update these terms from time to time (see section 13).
2. What the Service is
The Mission Bible is a free educational and devotional tool for learning a language by reading and listening to the Bible verse by verse. It is provided for personal, non‑commercial use.
The Service is not a church and does not provide religious, legal, financial, medical or other professional advice. It sells nothing — any money you give is a voluntary contribution (see section 7).
3. Your account
You can read and listen to parts of the Service anonymously. For full access you can create a free account.
When you create an account you agree to give accurate information, keep your login details secure, and not share your account or let anyone else use it. You're responsible for what happens under your account.
The Service is intended for a general audience and is not directed at young children. If you are a child, you should only use the Service with the involvement of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf. We may remove any account we reasonably believe belongs to a child using the Service without appropriate consent.
We may suspend or close an account that breaches these terms, or where we reasonably need to for security, legal or operational reasons.
4. Acceptable use
You may use the Service for your own learning and devotion. You must not:
- copy, scrape, harvest, download in bulk, or systematically extract the generated audio, word studies or other content, whether by hand or using bots, scripts or other automated means;
- redistribute, resell, sublicense or publish our generated audio, word studies or other content, or present them as your own;
- access the Service through automated means beyond normal personal use, or place unreasonable load on it;
- attempt to reverse engineer, interfere with, probe or circumvent the Service, its security or its access tiers;
- use the Service unlawfully, to infringe anyone's rights, or in any way that could damage or disrupt it or other users.
5. Content and intellectual property
The Bible text comes from public‑domain translations, which we identify and link to in the app. That scripture is not owned by us.
Everything else — including the generated audio narration, the generated word studies, and the design, code, branding and layout of the Service — is owned by us or our licensors and is protected by law. We give you a personal, limited, non‑exclusive, non‑transferable and revocable licence to use this content for your own learning while you comply with these terms. We keep all other rights.
6. Accuracy — please read
The translations, glosses, word studies, example sentences and Greek/Hebrew notes in the Service are generated automatically by software. They are provided to help you learn and may contain errors, omissions or inaccuracies. They are not authoritative, scholarly or theological references and should not be relied on as such. Always check anything important against a trusted source. Your use of this material is at your own discretion and risk.
7. Contributions (donations)
The Service is free. You never have to pay to use it.
If you choose to support us, you can make a one‑off or recurring voluntary contribution. Please note:
- A contribution is a gift to help cover our running costs. It is not a purchase, a subscription to premium content, or a fee for goods or services — all content stays free whether you contribute or not.
- We are not a registered charity, and contributions are not tax‑deductible.
- Payments are handled by our payment provider (Stripe). We never receive or store your card details.
- Recurring contributions can be cancelled at any time from your billing area, and stop at the end of the current period.
- Contributions are generally non‑refundable, but we may give a refund at our discretion — just contact us and we'll consider it case by case.
8. Availability and changes to the Service
We provide the Service "as is" and "as available". We don't promise it will always be available, uninterrupted, error‑free or secure. We may change, add, remove, limit or discontinue books, voices, features or the whole Service at any time, without notice and without liability to you.
9. Third‑party services
The Service relies on third parties (for example our payment, hosting and email providers). Your use of their services may also be governed by their own terms. We aren't responsible for third‑party services we don't control.
10. Our liability
Nothing in these terms limits any rights you have under the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993, the Fair Trading Act 1986 or other New Zealand laws that cannot be excluded. Where you are using the Service for the purposes of a business, you agree those consumer law protections do not apply.
To the maximum extent the law allows:
- the Service is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied;
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, profit, goodwill or opportunity, arising from your use of (or inability to use) the Service; and
- our total liability to you for any and all claims connected with the Service is limited to NZ$100.
11. Suspension and termination
You can stop using the Service and delete your account at any time. We may suspend or end your access if you breach these terms or where we reasonably need to. Sections that by their nature should continue (including sections 5, 6, 7, 10 and 13) survive termination.
12. Indemnity
You agree to reimburse us for any reasonable loss, cost or claim we suffer because you have breached these terms or misused the Service.
13. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. If we make a significant change we'll take reasonable steps to let you know, such as a notice in the app or by email. Continuing to use the Service after a change means you accept the updated terms.
14. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New Zealand, and the New Zealand courts have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute relating to them or the Service.
